Here is a picture from my room, ca. 1945, of the left half my toy cabinet,
which my dad had built for me some ten years before and which, by then, had
become a repository for models (left half) and kit boxes and modeling supplies (right
half). Although the photo is blurred and indistinct, you can see endless
airplane models and, on the right side of the top shelf, the cars of what I now know
for sure to be the StromBecKer De Witt Clinton
train; I still have an aluminum tire from that set in my junk box (wrong - it was from a
red or orange plastic Stevenson's Rocket, not a StromBecKer)!

In spite of the apparent rough treatment of those planes, they were stacked in there with TLC and many survive to this day (witnwess the SE-5A shown on the preceding page). Also dramatically in evidence on the left is the Foredom Electric flexible shaft drill and its accompanying wall bracket, which I inherited from my grandfather, both still in use today (although the second cord set has now rotted and must be replaced).

Here's a puzzler (two, actually) for you - who remembers who put out a 25 cent balsa
wood kit of the USS Panay gunboat, right after the Japanese sank the prototype
(on the Yangtze near Wuhu in Anwhei province in China on 12 Dec 1937), as well as
who made a 5 cent flying model kit of a Boeing B-9 bomber around that time or a year
or two earlier?

Well, I was just (11 Nov 2007) sent an image of the No. 88 Hobby Den
Tool Cabinet:

It has a few less tools than the #89, such as the protractor and the
stripwood cutter, but also a few others, such as the bench vise.
