Ruhnian State Railways Class 46.5 Heisler - Artur Gorote's Class 465C V-8
Heisler drive proved so successful that the
Ruhnian State Railways, after consulting with the ever-ebullient George
Ersatz, II, commissioned his cousin, Ira Ersatz, Jr., to come up with a
far-smaller version for local, high-speed, branch-line service. It didn't
take long for the BW and the RSR's Bevice-Akohniçe shops to produce the popular
little Singular Class 46.5 2-2-2 (1-1-1 in Ruhnia):

The Singular ran all over the off-the-beaten-track of the RSR and many examples are
still in active service in the far reaches of the system.
BW/EMD Model 40-series - EMD's neat little Model 40 industrial switcher, of
which only 11 were built from 1940 through 1943 (war babies) and of which only 5
survive (a huge proportion), generated a whole slew of related proposal drawings for
boxcab and semi-boxcab versions; we at the BW happen to know that Ira Ersatz did
these under contract to EMD. The Model 40 was powered by twin General
Motors 6-71 150HP in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines which spun a single,
centrally-mounted generator, with one engine rotating in opposition to the other
(good thing!). Ira's drawings for the Models 40A,
40B, 40C, 40H, and 4040, 5440 (or
fight), and 5445 follow:

It's not terribly hard to see why EMD was somewhat less than enthused over Ira's
efforts.
Later, the BW worked openly with EMD to develop another line; here are Ira's
drawings of the BW-EMD Models 5, 10, 20, 60, and 80, bracketing the EMD Model 40:

The Model 5 has a pair of 1-71s, 1-cylinder versions of the GM 6-71, the Model 10 has
a pair of 2-71s, and the 20 a pair of 4-71s; the Model 60 sports a pair of 6-71s (V-6s)
and the Model 80 a pair of 8-71s (V-8s).
Speaking of the the BW's "fabled DDP45", as I do at
the top of each Apocrypha page, it seems that Ira, in his dotage,
completely misunderstood brother George when the design studies for
the DDP45 were initiated and created a DD40 for EMD and the UP:

4-Truck Shays - when the West Side Lumber Company's 3-truck Shay proved
so successful, rival East Side Lumber Company wanted to go them one
better with greater capacity between stops and had Ira Ersatz design a 4-truck Shay
with an enormous tank for ESLCo. Using all standard Shay components, Ira
quickly came up with ESLCo's No. 51:

World-famous Coocoos Bay Lumber Company liked the design but had had a
lot of trouble with the front truck derailing on their Shays on really-rough woods
trackage; they wanted less weight on the front truck. George Ersatz sold them
on the idea of a new and different 4-truck Shay concept which Ira speedily reduced to
practice; CBLCo. No. 69:

Note that the steam line was piped through the cisterns to keep the water warm;
while the design worked as planned, and rerailing was far easier, for some funny
reason, no other lumber outfit or RR ever ordered this design, which the Ersatz's
thought was ever-so-clever.
Karen Parker reminded me of Couscous Bay and that rang a bell - sure
enough, there WAS a company with a confusingly similar name, in the lignin business,
named the Couscous Bay Lignin Company, and they also had a 4-truck Shay
designed by Ira Ersatz. This one, Couscous Bay #22, was REALLY unique; it
burned the very lignin it hauled, in the form of powdered couscous, which was
pumped dry from the cistern to the firebox:
