Pennsylvania RR Class P5 (followed by the P5A and
experimental P5B) were designed as fast (95mph)
4-C-4 freight locomotives with passenger capability. Many P5A
units were given semi-streamlined center-cab bodies [so-called P5A
MOD (modified)]. Of the 64 units built, only the first, P5 #4700 survives at the
Museum of Transportation (formerly
the National Museum of Transport) in St. Louis! I missed it when I was out
there; it is not mentioned on their site and I am trying to get more information for here
and my PRR pages. No streamlined P5A
Modified units were saved.

Thanks to the great courtesy of the Museum of Transportation, I am able to reproduce here this shot of #4700 they dug out of their files for us:

I was out at the MoT on 27 Jun 06 to find #4700 (and GG1 #4916) under the shed
but looking rather sad and inaccessible:

Let's find a way to bring her back to Pennsylvania (Strasburg) where she can be properly cared for and appreciated!
